How to remove a password from a PDF you own
Bank statements, payslips and tax documents often arrive password-protected. That is sensible in an inbox, but it gets in the way when you want to merge them, compress them or open them every day. If the file is yours and you know the password, you can save a copy without it.
Open Unlock PDFRemove password protection from PDFs you own and know the password for.
Remove the password step by step
- Open Unlock PDF and add the protected file.
- Enter the password you use to open it.
- Select Unlock PDF and download the copy. It opens without a password and has no printing or copying restrictions.
Papermint does not guess, crack or bypass passwords. Without the right password the file stays locked, and Unlock only works on documents you own or are allowed to change.
When you only need to work with the file
You do not always have to unlock first. Merge PDF and several other tools ask for the password of a protected file and carry on. Unlocking is worth it when you will open the file often, or pass it to software that cannot handle passwords.
Keep sensitive copies safe
- Store the unlocked copy somewhere private. It no longer has the protection the sender added.
- Protect it again before sending it on. Protect PDF adds a password of your choice and AES-256 encryption.
- Delete the result from Papermint with Delete now once you have downloaded it, if you do not want to wait for the automatic deletion.
